Tories & Trade Union Funds

A link to today’s Delegated Legislation Committee on Trade Union Political Funds, where again we are subjected to the most ordinary views from Tory Backbenchers on the role of Trade Unions.

Todays Statutory Instrument places unnecessary burdens on political funds, the majority of which – as the UK Government admits is not used for party political purposes but for general campaigning.

The most extraordinary moment is when it is reasonably put to the UK Government that setting a limit to comply by 1st March 2018 will place unnecessary burdens on Trade Unions they reject the advice of Oliver Letwin to move the date back.

Workers Rights

Protecting Your Rights At WorkToday I attended the launch of the Workers Rights (Maintenance of EU Standards) Bill, moved by Melanie Onn MP which I have co-sponsored.

Workers Protections introduced via the EU including the Equal Treatment Directive, Part Time.Workers Directive Agency Workers Directive, Working Time Directive, Fixed Term.Workers Directive and the EU Collective.Redundancy Regulations have all been responsible for protecting jobs, improving pay and terms and conditions.

It is vital therefore that those protections remain in place.
